This book describes power management ICs to tacklethe challenges for both accurate and efficient powerdelivery for today''s high performance processors.A double-edge multi-phase low-latency pulse widthmodulator IC is implemented in 0.18 um CMOS processwith 0.04 mm2 active area and demonstrates a fastdouble-edge pulse width modulation scheme which isimportant for achieving fast controller response forhigh bandwidth applications. A multi-mode 4-phasedigital IC controller for voltage regulatorapplication is implemented in 0.18 um CMOS processwith 4 mm2 active area. The controller combines loadcurrent feedforward with voltage mode feedback toachieve fast transient response and multi-modecontrol strategy improves the converter efficiency byat least a factor of ten in light load condition. Aload-scheduled integrator array is developed in thecontroller IC which improves the load transientresponse when voltage regulator transitions betweencontinuous conduction mode and discontinuousconduction mode.
