Life is full of choices. From the time we wake up in the morning, we have the freedom of making different choices throughout the day. Some may be right choices, and some may be poor choices. It is up to us to make those decisions. It does not matter what choices we make in life; they do not set up the path for our final destination. It depends on the attitude we develop toward the consequences of our choices. We embark on a journey and we have two paths to follow: the one that will make us miserable or the one that will transform us. Our lives can change the same way that a caterpillar goes through the transformation process to become a beautiful butterfly. Tara Gazzuolo exemplifies the transformation process of a butterfly. I met Tara during her journey that God set apart for her to make her aware of His amazing love. I was part of that journey, witnessing daily changes that made her the strong woman she is today. Despite adversities, Tara was determined that her present journey at the time was not going to be an obstacle in God's plan for her life. Adversity, health problems, separation from her loved ones, the stigma of being incarcerated, and the loss of her physical freedom were only stepping stones toward the destination that God had planned for her life. Like Daniel and his three friends, Tara stood out in the midst of adversity because of the" food and drink" she chose to consume. Standing up for what you believe is not easy, especially when you are incarcerated. Fellow inmates may "label" you and call you different names; however, you can't lose focus of who God wants you to be. That will allow you to "be the change" you want to see in any environment that you live in. Tara knew, she could "be that change," not because of others but because of what God had revealed to her in the middle of so much darkness. I remember many times that we cried, prayed, and laughed together during her journey of her life. Many times we struggled in our faith but kept each other afloat. We both experienced the death of loved ones, a blow to your heart that could cause you to lose faith in everything you believe in, but God was not through with His plan. God's plan for Tara's life was in the early stages. Like the caterpillar goes through the transformation process, God had a process of working on Tara, His masterpiece. She was like a cocoon hanging by a silky thread emerging into a magnificent butterfly with fluttery wings, ready to glorify God for His creation.
