Multiferroic BiFe1-xCoxO3 (x = 0, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.1) in powder form have been prepared using a sol-gel technique using Ethylenediamin- etetracticacid (EDTA) as a chelating agent. The phase purity and the structure of the prepared samples have been investigated by XRD and FTIR spectroscopy analysis. X-ray diffraction and FTIR data revealed that Co atoms have been successfully incorporated into the host lattice. The microstructure and surface morphology of the samples have been studied using transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The SEM and TEM images show that the particles are uniform, dense and of nearly rods and nano-particles shapes. The phase transitions above room temperature have been investigated by DTA measurements. Ferroelectrics and magnetic properties are investigated. The increased mobile oxygen vacancies resulted in the increasing of dielectric constants and decreasing loss in 5%Co doped as compared BFO nanoparticles.
