A policy for the integration of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV services in Ghana was first published in 2007. This study was conducted in early implementation sites to gather information and inform the scaling up. The study involved a quantitative component and a qualitative aspect. The quantitative component involved analysis of TB patients, and the qualitative component involved interviewing patients with both TB and HIV about their experience of integrated services. The book provides a very rich description of integration of health services as a means to improve service delivery, TB/HIV integration as a global initiative, and the use of mixed methods as a study design. This book provides insights into the effectiveness of different service delivery models, as well as barriers and facilitators of TB and HIV integration. It is therefore a good resource for students, teachers, researchers as well as public health clinicians.

Dr Gloria Ansa is a Senior Medical Officer and the Head of the Public Health Unit of the University of Ghana Health Services, Legon in Accra.
