Peter Goruk loved to explore. Wherever he lived he would explore the wilderness. Whenever he was out in the wilds, he took meticulous notes, even if it was just a day trip picking mushrooms. Displaying the spirit of an explorer, he documented everything he did and saw. In the late 1960s, he moved to Smithers, British Columbia, Canada, a whole new place to explore. His favorite spot for exploration, however, was Spatsizi Provincial Park, a huge park in northern British Columbia that is accessible only by float plane. He was flown into the park and then had no contact with the outside world for six weeks at a time. He built a base camp and spent the entire time exploring the mountains. Shared with his permission following his death Spatsizi: One Man's Journey in Paradise chronicles one of his journeys into Spatsizi Park, a place he always referred to as paradise.
