Prof. Abd-Alla Gad is a senior professor, Environmental Studies and Land Use Division, National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, SUDSOE–FP7-EU project coordinator with the following history, experience, and expertise. He got his Ph.D. from Faculty of Sciences, State University of Ghent, Belgium, Ph.D. in Soil Sciences, Using Remote Sensing Techniques, with the degree of "Greatest distinction", October 1988. Then joined post-doctoral studies in the Remote Sensing Technology International Center (RESTIC) in Tokyo, Japan, in 1994 and peace fellowship holder for post-doctoral studies in the State University of South Dakota, 1995. He is a holder of the state prize in advanced technical Studies Agricultural Sciences in Egypt. National expert in the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, 1995-2002. Prof. Gad is deeply involved in environmental impact assessments in Egypt and in the Arab world. He is a regional coordinator for a number of EU funded projects (AVICENE, CAMELEO, LANDWATERMED, MEDCOASTLAND, MEDAQUA1, MEDAQWA2, MELIA EU-INCO Project, and FP4BATIW-FP7) and a member of the International working group linking MIRA and Horizon 2020 projects activities (2009-2012), a coordinator of the ERAWIDE EU-FP7 project "Characterization and Sustainable Use of Egyptian Degraded Soils – SUDSOE", January 2012-December 31, 2014. Additionally, he was principal investigator of several National funded projects in the field of soil, water use and environmental sciences and project evaluator for the Marie Curie programs. Moreover, Prof. Gad is a member of EU-Egypt Cooperation Comity for Science and Technology since 2008, a member of a number of international scientific events around the world, and has published 145 articles in different International and National Journals and bulletins. On the other hand, he was instructor of “Environmental Impact Assessment on Land use/Land Cover Using Remote Sensing and GIS” (Northwestern Coast of Egypt), Training course on: The role of remote Sensing and Space Technologies in EIA, Organized by UNESCO, EGSMA, NARSS, UNDF, and the British Council, Cairo. Also, he was a trainer in the training, program director of "GIS project Management" and "Air Pollution", Projacs International for Project Analysis & Control System Co. Furthermore, he is an editorial board member and reviewer of different international Journals and associate editor of the Egyptian Journal of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences.
Dalia Elfiky is associated professor, supervisor of the Structure, Thermal Control and Space Environment Department, Space Science Division, National Authority of Remote Sensing and Space science. She has been a NARSS member since 2001. Dalia completed her Ph.D. at the Faculty of Science Ain Shams University. She was a Ph.D. research student at Toyota technological Institute, Nagoya, Japan, from 2009-2011. Her research interests lie in the area of space environment effects on satellite components ranging from simulation models to experimental testing. In recent years, she has focused on the development of space materials and components to withstand space environment hazards.
Prof. Abdelazim Negm is a professor of hydraulics (and water resources) at the Faculty of Engineering, Zagazig University, Egypt, since 2004. He got his Ph.D. in 1992 from Zagazig University (ZU), and his M.Sc. from Ain shams University in the year 1990. He was the vice dean of the Faculty of Engineering of ZU from 12/2008 to 12/2011 and was the head of the Environmental Engineering Department at Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), Egypt, from October 2013 to March 2016. He participated in several international projects from 2006 until now and was the principal investigator for two international projects. and led other international projects. He published more than 400 papers in national and international journals and conferences and contributed to more than 50 book chapters that have been published by Springer Publishing House. Some of his papers were awarded the prize of the best papers. He is the editor of more than 50 Springer books with 14 volumes published in the Springer Handbook of Environmental Chemistry Series (HEC Series), and he is the editor of the Springer book series titled “Earth and Environmental Science Library Series” and “Deltas of the World Book Series’. He is a member of the scientific committee of several international conferences and a member of organizing committee of others and participated in more than 99 conferences as well. He delivered several keynote talks at international conferences. Prof. Negm is a reviewer of more than 50 international scientific journals indexed in Scopus and WoS. He was the editor-in-chief of EIJEST during the period of 2017–2020, an editor of the EMJEI, which is published by Springer, and an associate editor of the Journal of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences and Scientific African Journal, which is published by Elsevier. He is a guest editor for several special issues in several journals of MDPI and Frontiers. Also, he is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals. Moreover, he is a member of the editorial board of the famous Springer Series titled Handbook of Environmental Chemistry since 2019. Negm is the head of the permanent scientific committee on Water Resources (committee no.115), the supreme council of Egyptian Universities, Egypt during the period 2019-2022 and vise head during the period from 2016-2019. Moreover, Prof. Negm is listed in the most famous and prestigious directories in the world including the American Biographical Institute (ABI), Inc., USA, “Marquis Who's Who in the World”, 27th Ed., 2010, USA, until now and in IBC's 2000 as an Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England, since 2011 until the present. He was nominated for various awards by both ABI and IBC during the period 2011–2012.
Professor Salwa Elbeih received her B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. Degrees in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 1997, 2002, and 2007 respectively. Her M.Sc. was on studying the Geoengineering Hazards Using Remote Sensing Techniques on El-Mokattam area. Her Ph.D. was on the impact of groundwater recharge on the surrounding environment. Since August 2022, she is the acting head of the Engineering Applications and Water Division at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS), Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Elbeih was the P.I., Co-P.I. and team member for more than 30 national and international research projects. She published more than 40 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, conferences, and book chapters. She is a reviewer in a number of international peer-reviewed international journals and supervised a number of master and Ph. D. thesis. She is a Co-editor with Egyptian and international researchers in two books published by Springer; Environmental Remote Sensing in Egypt and Sustainable Water Solutions in the Western Desert, Egypt, Dakhla Oasis.
In 2009 and 2010, respectively, she was awarded a prize from the ministry of water resources and irrigation and another prize for the best paper in the 6th International Conference on Environmental Hydrology.
Since April 2019, Dr. Elbeih is the Director of the Publishing Office of the Egyptian Journal of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (EJRS) and an Associate editor in EJRS.
She participated in a number of international conferences, symposiums and workshops in Japan, Germany, Tunisia, Greece and Belgium.
The recent researches of Prof. Elbeih focus on GIS-Based Groundwater Aquifer Suitability for Drinking and irrigation, Remote Sensing and GIS approach for studying Groundwater deterioration, the relation between Wells and land use changes, sustainable Groundwater Management in Arid Regions, Multi-Criteria Site Selection and Assessment of Ports, qualitative assessment of groundwater quality based on land use spectral retrieved indices, locating and mapping swelling soils, and remote sensing and GIS for groundwater mapping in Egypt.
This book covers various aspects of remote sensing and geographic information systems, from the perspective of earth and environmental sciences. The theme of applications of remote sensing and geographic information systems for the purposes of sustainable development highlights the innovative usage of space imaged spectral data in soil characterization. This book merges the selected contributions to the First International Conference of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences Applications (Egypt 2022) aiming to promote the latest findings on the development of Space Technologies and Applications.
