This book discusses the main factors regarding provision of agricultural education in Africa with special reference to Kenya during the colonial and post-colonial periods. Although agricultural education constituted an important feature of the colonial education policy and practice, it was packaged for Africans with racial connotations and degradation. Therefore, it failed to achieve the results for which it was intended because it was resented by Africans on political and socio-economic grounds. On that basis, Professor Ngome observes that it was expected that after independence, agricultural education would be eliminated from the school curriculum. To the contrary, agricultural education has again become the cornerstone of the post-colonial education policies mainly because of the problem of school leaver unemployment. Therefore, in this book he highlights the appropriateness of agricultural education programs in Kenya. The book is quite resourceful for agricultural officers, students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in history and comparative education, and curriculum studies.

Charles K. Ngome is an Associate Professor of Education at Mount Kenya University and holds BA and PGDE (Education - Makerere University), M.Ed. and Ph.D. (Education - Kenyatta University). He has taught at Kenyatta University and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and published extensively in refereed journals and books.
