High-resolution urban meteorological observation system networks (UMS-Seoul) have been installed in the Seoul Metropolitan Area to deliver high-quality meteorological information customized for users' demands for the purpose of urban resilience and sustainability: to prevent possible damages from extreme disaster in advance, to give the best timely guidance to citizens during an unexpected disaster, and to optimize the efficiency of urban planning and reconstruction. As a leading urban experimental complex, the UMS-Seoul observed data are expected to be a key to understanding the meso-Gamma to micro-beta scale urban meteorological phenomena (gray zone or terra-incognita problem) more deeply, as well as alleviation of damage from disastrous weather phenomena in highly populated urban area.
