This work is based on Gandhiji's ecological ideas which could be a viable alternative to the existing problems of the environment. The study is divided into five chapters. The first one being the introduction gives a brief outline of the present study. The second chapter being "Gandhiji and Environment: A Conceptual Analysis" tries to explore from the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi relating to the present ongoing environmental crisis. The third chapter entitled "Challenges of the Environment" outlines the present crisis of environment, the major causes behind and the responses of humanity towards this problem. The fourth chapter titled "Environment, Development and Modernization: An Analysis" discusses about the impact of the processes of development and modernization on the environment. The fifth chapter, which is being the "Conclusion" one summarizes the present study, apart from this it suggests certain solutions based on Gandhian principles. The study begins with an in-depth analysis of the environmental problems facing humanity. Then it moves forward to explain how Gandhian methods could be a viable alternative to existing crisis.
