In the past few decades, the nature of the executive function and its neural implementation has arisen as one of the most important issues in understanding higher order cognitions. Despite the substantial number of studies on the topic, the concept of executive function remains elusive. The main purpose of this book is to present different neuropsychological studies examining the role of the two hemispheres in various executive- and memory processes and the role of anxiety related emotions on executive processes. Summarizing the findings from various neuropsychological studies, the author proposes an integrative-executive model with five separable executive processes - Inhibition, Updating, Shifting, Monitoring and Production- with different neural localization in the brain. The neuropsychological examinations presented in the book should help shed some light on the complexity of executive functions and their possible examinations or differential diagnosis of executive functions, and should be especially useful to neruopsychologists, psychologist, cognitive scientists and neurologists or anyone else who is interested in the examination and development of cognitive functions.
