Reinforced cement concrete is the most versatile and potentially one of the most durable materials for a Structural Engineer because of the mouldability, weather resistance, strength and durability. A number of factors are responsible for early distress in RCC structure. However, 'Rebar Corrosion in concrete' is seen as major cause of distress of structures. Evidences of research on rebar corrosion in concrete are found way back since 1950 in literature. The huge socio-economic impact of the problem has prompted research in this area. Various researchers have proposed different solutions for corrosion mitigation. The basic principles that are followed for corrosion mitigation are, Maintaining the impermeability of concrete, Maintaining the high alkalinity of concrete, Removal of chloride ions from concrete around the rebars and Making the rebars corrosion-proof or making use of other metals or alloys rather than plain mild steel. This study is an attempt in this direction; various important corrosion inhibition methods are evaluated. Effect on the Rebar Corrosion, effect on the fresh and hardened concrete properties are studied and presented in the book.
