The purpose of this book is to start a more in-depth discussion of the concept of "Freedom" in the field of Economics by analyzing the works of two important authors who have made the definition of such concept a key part of their arguments from supposedly opposite sides of the spectrum. The works of both Hayek and Sen are considered very influential in the current social, political and, most of all, economical dispute; the first being used to argue for "free market" policies, and the second for a more "interventionist state". Through a thorough analysis of the books "Road to Serfdom" and "Development as Freedom", as well as complementary material from both and other authors, I aimed at reaching a conclusion regarding which view could be considered more complete or at least more inclusive and, consequently, which should actually be taken into account when arguing for the social and economic development of a region through, primarily, public policies. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my view on this important issue and I hope you will enjoy reading it.
