The framework of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) was implemented by the superpowers in the Libyan crisis which authorized foreign military intervention during the uprising in Libya that resulted to unrest in the region and Middle East. From the start of the unrest, the Libyan leader Gaddafi's supporters clashed with protesters in February 2011.Foreign forces intervention in Libya took place and designed by few Superpowers through the use of R2P framework, which was adopted at the UN World Summit in 2005 with intention to avoid any further genocide and ethnic cleansing that, the international community ever experienced.Cambodia, Liberia and Rwanda were the example of genocide the international community to never want to happen again on humanity. However, there are critics that superpowers used the R2P framework as an open door to interfere in a weaker and independent country. Many scholars have questioned the legitimacy and legality of the Libyan intervention. However, another strand of literature provided compelling evidence indicating the model of its effective, but the execution of the application was questionable, because the applying nation adopts a realism approach.
