This study grew out of a personal desire to produce awork that studied the life satisfaction ofstay-at-home mothers. Thisresearch project is a qualitative study of theexperience of being a stay-at-home mother. Thepurpose of this study is to provide a narrative viewof at-home mothering based on the variables ofidentity, isolation, social support, well-being andlife satisfaction, in addition to parenting at leastone "pre"-school child. The perceived status ofmothers and the value of their work are some of thefactors included in this study as a historicalfoundation of the experience of motherhood. Thisstudy found a connection between a strong and variedsocial support system, which appeared to lowerisolation, and increase the well-being and lifesatisfaction of the mothers in this study. The dataindicated that overall these mothers were satisfiedwith their decision and experienced the rolepositively.

Bethel University, St. Paul, Minnesota. She has also has a M.A.
in Psychology, with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology from
Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California where
she is working on her PhD.
