ARE THESE THINGS POSSIBLE? The pain from my fractured spine was excruciating. The medical prognosis was dire: a minimum of three months of healing time. The services of a twenty-four hour caretaker was essential. My dear friend Barbara volunteered to care for me. It was the fourth day of my agonizing, painful recovery when Barbara began preparing my routine sponge bath. When she left my bedside to fill a basin with water from the bathroom sink, a distance of no more than ten feet, the miracle started happening Suddenly, through the window came bright, white rays of light The light rays were vivid and luminous. Instinctively I knew this light was not of this earth because of its magnificent brilliance and its feeling of absolute love The Light was accompanied by a gentle, yet strong male voice that asked me: "DO YOU BELIEVE?" Without question, I knew this was the voice of The Infinite. I immediately answered, "Yes, I believe," although admittedly my response sounded uncertain. The gentle, strong voice spoke again, this time asking me the question in a measured tone with each word asked separately, definitively: "DO--YOU--BELIEVE?" Hearing the voice repeating the question my soul knew, understood and totally believed in what was going on and this time I answered with confidence: "Yes I believe " When I answered with complete belief a warm surge of energy whipped around me, starting from my left foot, then all around me and through my entire body. Whoosh Now for the third time, simultaneously letting me "know'" that I had an option to believe or not, the voice again asked in a more even and measured tone: "DO-YOU-BELIEVE?" While my physical brain couldn't understand what was happening, my soul - my entire being- knew and fully believed in what The Infinite was asking of me and I quickly answered, "YES I BELIEVE " By this time I was joyously absorbed and wrapped in my belief. It was then I experienced "a peace that passeth all understanding." The voice of The Infinite then gently instructed me: "HOLD OUT YOUR HANDS." As I lifted my hands outward a spot of the brilliant strip of light, which was still beaming diagonally through the window, touched the center of my outstretched palms This glowing light then took the forms of two entities that now appeared at the foot of the bed. I somehow knew they were angels. Like vertical clouds, they were misty and shaped like the outlines of human forms. I could feel their warmth and love "PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR BACK," The Infinite voice gently continued. I hesitated at first because of the horrifying pain that I would experience if I dared move even the slightest. But the "knowing" took over and I arched my back and slid my hands behind me with my fingers meeting in the middle. It was when I easily brought my hands from behind my back that I realized the pain was gone As my mind tried to comprehend all of this the angelic forms at the foot of the bed disappeared. The Presence and that gentle voice were gone and there stood Barbara holding the basin of water she had gone to get only seconds ago Though fully aware that she was in the room giving me a sponge bath and talking to me, to this day I have no idea what she said. I was there, yet not really there. It was as if I was between two worlds. As she continued to sponge bathe me, I heard myself say to her, "You can move my leg." Thinking I was kidding Barbara replied, "Yeah, right." And then I amazed myself when I sat up, upsetting the basin of water, jumped out of the bed and began to hop around. I took my friend by the hands, pulled her out of the chair and swung her around in a circle I will never forget her shrieks as I did these things. Her eyes were as wide as saucers, and who could blame her? I'm sure my eyes were twice as large as hers. I couldn't stop laughing and shouting I cried tears I couldn't understand WHAT WAS GOING ON?
