But the characters in these stories also choose their weird, or embrace their fate according to their understanding of their own world. In this way, the stories enter the realm of the female gothic.

Stephanie Branson received her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her M.A. from Tufts University, and her Ph.D. in Modern Letters from the University of Tulsa. She taught at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and as a Fulbright at universities in Poland and Belgium, and has published on the epipsyche and the supernatural.
