Abdulqawi A. YUSUF is the legal adviser and director of the Office of International Standards and Legal Affairs, UNESCO. He is a former assistant director-general and special adviser to the director-general of UNIDO (1998a 2001) and former legal adviser and head of legal affairs of UNIDO (1994a 1998). As Chief of the Legal Policies Section of UNCTAD (1988a 1992), he represented UNCTAD at the TRIPS negotiations and advised developing countries TRIPS issues.
