Michael Yanega was born in New York City, the eldest of five children. He studied Architecture for one year at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., then switched to the Engineering School there. He met his wife Denise in the church choir in 1965. He graduated in January 1967, as a late graduate of the Class of 1966, with a B.S.E.E. degree. This led to a thirty-two year career in aerospace.
