Susanna Winkworth (1820-1884), author and translator, was born in London on 13 Aug. 1820, and educated through governesses at home. Her younger sister Catherine was also a translator, and was known for her work on German hymns. In 1854 Susanna published perhaps her most noted work, her translation of the "Theologia Germanica". Among her other works include the" Life of Luther" (1855), "Signs of the Times" (1856), Tauler's "Sermons" (1857), "German Love from the Papers of an Alien" (1858), and the three volume set "God in History" (1868-70).
