Mike traveled extensively with his military family before residing in Virginia Beach, Virginia in his early teens. He graduated from Bayside High School in 1971. He owned and operated Higgins Hardware in Aragona Village, also located in Virginia Beach. After closing the family business, Mike, his wife Debbie and their three children, Heather, Holly and Michael left for West Virginia. He worked several years for Lowe's Building Materials and then several years helping manage two Gentleman's Clubs, Lady Godiva's/Excalibur and Fine Diamonds in Morgantown, West Virginia.
