"Over the course of the last two decades, I have watched the waning of public interest in contemporary visual fine art. I believe this decline stems from two circumstances. One, a greater percentage of today's public has a higher level of education than it did one hundred years ago. Due to this, the general population recognizes the subjective and elitist nature of juried competitions. Secondly, I believe that society wants to be stimulated intellectually as well as visually, but does not wish to be patronized in the process." Wilder
