At the age of 1 year, Celestia Whitehead was taken to Alaska by her parents, where she spent her childhood in the pristine setting of Kenny Lake, in the Copper River Basin, where the only real trouble she could get into was getting lost in the brush or encountering a bear, which she did more than once.
