Carmen Whalen received her Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 1994 and is associate professor of history at Williams College, where she teaches courses in Latina/o history. She is author of "From Puerto Rico to Philadelphia: Puerto Rican Workers and Postwar Economies" (2001), and coeditor of "The Puerto Rican Diaspora: Historical Perspectives" (2005). She has recently assembled a photographic history of Puerto Ricans in Philadelphia for the Images of America series.
