Frances Farrell Viglielmo was brought up at the isthmus, attending schools in both Panama (in Spanish) and the American Canal Zone. She began writing as a school reporter on high school and junior-college activities on the Zone for the English edition of the bilingual newspaper, The Panama American. She has received awards in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she lives with her family, in competitions administered by the National League of American Pen Women. For her activities for a just peace she has received local and Japanese peace awards.
