George Vernyn was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1944. He took BS and MS degrees at the College of Engineering of the University of California in Berkeley, and studied Darwin under Professor Richard M. Eakin. He served in the US Peace Corps as a teacher in Africa, then forged a lifelong career in electronics engineering, developing automatic factory machinery for the worldwide electronics industry.
