Yvonne Vera was born and brought up in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She studied at and gained her Ph.D. from York University in Canada. She now works as the Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Yvonne Vera is the author of the novels Nehanda (1993), Without a Name (1994), Under the Tongue (1996), and Don't You Carve Other Animals (1992), all published by Baobab Books.
