CINDY TRUMBORE has been involved with young people's literature for most of her career. A former editor in children's book publishing, she now writes children's books, edits books for classrooms, and teaches writing. Trumbore was inspired to tell the story of the Puerto Rican parrots by a quarter in the US Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters program that featured El Yunque National Forest and an image of a Puerto Rican parrot. As a follow-up, "an article about this quarter in my local paper made me want to learn more about Puerto Rican parrots," says Trumbore. She lives in New Jersey.
