Dorothy Tillman was 87 years old, a few months from death, when she wrote Eddie Flynn From Brooklyn, a biographical novella based on her father's remarkable childhood. In high school, Dorothy was awarded second prize in a city-wide writing competition. One judge confided that she would have won first prize but the subject - her love for a homosexual boy - was deemed too controversial. Dorothy did not return to writing until retirement.
