The author lives in the shadows cast by San Francisco's unmatched vitality, writes his stuff in pen on lined notebooks, is deeply indebted to friends and family for their help, and once jumped from one side of the Mississippi River to the other side in a display of bold abandon. He is currently living the pre-ordained life of every author, i.e., he is out begging people to read his book and then begging them to tell everybody they know about it.
