John Svenson was born in 1933, the depth of the Great Depression. His father was a concert pianist. As most music lovers at that difficult time would rather spend their money on food than concert tickets, a notable strain was put upon the Svenson marriage. A divorce ensued. John and his brother, Paul were raised by their mother, Florence. The family endured World War II with its shortages and rationing. They enjoyed, along with everyone else, the Golden Age of Radio and the advent of television.
