Helen Stone (1904 - 1978) attended the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts and the Art Students League, and later studied in Paris. After spending time teaching and doing some designing and commercial art, she began illustrating books, and in 1944 she illustrated her first book for children. During the next two decades she illustrated a number of books for children, written by a variety of authors.
