Amy Hoyes was born in Maryland and raised in Virginia. After college in North Carolina, she was a newspaper reporter in Georgia and worked in cable television and advertising. She returned to North Carolina to get married and start a family. When her children were born, she left her journalism career and began teaching preschool and working in children's ministry. With a desire to teach young children basic morals and values, she decided to write children's books in a way preschoolers could understand.
