Spencer is a Los Alamos and Livermore retiree, a chemist, and a former safety officer in nuclear weapons research. He went to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War era, where he lived for 7 years and traveled the world extensively. From 1967 to 1970 he worked at the Johnson Space Center in Houston where he was a part of the team that trained Apollo astronauts. He predicted the Apollo 13 accident that led to preemptive enlarging of lunar module oxygen bottles. He now lives on the road year round, traveling the North America continent in his motorhome with his cat, Freckles, fishing and writing.
