Emily Martha Sorensen has always loved fantasy. Growing up, she would devour the works of C. S. Lewis, Michael Ende, Diana Wynne Jones, and Patricia C. Wrede. She loves humor, and she has a particular fondness for fairy tale retellings. She wrote her first book at ten years old, after deciding that she wanted to write professionally at the age of six. She completed her first draft of this book at fifteen, and has gone through several dozen rewrites since then.
