D. Darlene Sonntag grew up in the foster care system starting at age 3. She was finally adopted into a wonderful family at the age of eleven. Due to the abuse she suffered in many of her foster homes, she used reading as an outlet. In one of her homes she would climb a tree with a book, and sit reading high in its branches to hide from her foster mother. It didn't take long for her to begin writing as a means of escape, and she completed her first full length novel at age 12. She now resides in Utah with her husband and four children.
