Robert Duncan-Enzmann was born in Peking, China at a time just before the electrification of the city, before the introduction of the motor-car. He attended British Embassy schools where he was taught reading, writing, composition, arithmetic (emphasizing mental computation), history, astronomy, and navigationally based geography. The school regularly exchanged students with France and Germany beginning with Kindergarten.
