Smith, Uriah

Uriah Smith was born in 1832 in the state of New Hampshire. His first contribution to Adventist literature was a poem of 35,000 words published in 1853 in the Review and Herald. That same year he joined his sister, Annie, as an employee of the Advent Review and Sabbath Herald in Rochester, New York. Two years later, at the age of twenty-three, he name appeared on the masthead of the magazine as editor. He held that position, or associate editor, for the majority of the next fifty years.
