Ruth Sidranksy was born in Brooklyn to two profoundly deaf parents. Her first language was Sign, and she translated the world's sounds for her parents throughout their lives. In 1990, Sidransky wrote In Silence, a memoir of her life among the world of the Deaf. Nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, the New York Times called it ."..a great act of love."
