Rowland A. Sherrill, professor and chair of religious studies and director of the Center for American Studies at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis, is the author of The Prophetic Melville: Experience, Transcendence, and Tragedy, the editor of Religion and the Life of the Nation: American Recoveries, and coeditor of Religion and American Culture: A Journal of Interpretation.
