Over the past 25 years, Tom Sgouros has worked as a physical oceanographer, technical writer, environmental consultant, circus producer, robot builder, rope-walker, and editor for Make: Books. His physics education has been invaluable for sizing robot motors, figuring out whether the hydrodynamic models were really working, and keeping the trapeze from pulling down the circus tent. When not building steam engines out of soda cans, he tours widely with his robot friend Judy in a one-man-one-robot show, and he hangs out at AS220, the fabulous art space in Providence, RI.
