Paul Sears was one of the pioneers in ecology. His thinking, studies, and writing have focused constantly on the ecological perspective of man's role in nature. He was a preeminent and old-fashioned naturalist and botanist, who knew the land in a very practical way, having owned and managed a farm in Ohio.
