Harold Schweizer was born in Switzerland, where he earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Zurich. In 1987, he emigrated to the U.S. and joined the English faculty at Bucknell University, where he teaches courses in literary theory and creative writing. He is author and editor of many publications in literary criticism and theory, most recently the book On Waiting (Routledge, 2008) and Rarity and the Poetic: The Gesture of Small Flowers (Palgrave, 2015). He is an avid hiker and often kayaks on the Susquehanna River.
