Schardt, Thomas

Thomas Schardt was born in the former East Germany in 1955. He spent the rst twenty-nine years of his life in East Berlin and Leipzig, where he worked as a librarian and later as a journalist. In 1984 he was nally permitted to move to West Berlin where he soon found work as a reporter, and in 1989 he joined a group of foreign correspondents and started reporting from New York for a variety of major German newspapers and magazines. He strongly believes that our history is the result of a larger puzzle that each of us play a role in creating. Thomas currently lives in Maine.
