When we adopted our daughters from China, I learned of the Chinese legend of the Red Thread of Fate. The belief goes something like this....a red string ties together those who are destined to meet each other, in a certain situation, or help each other in a certain way. The people connected by the red thread are destined to be together, regardless of time, place, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but will never break. One of the wonderful things about Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet's love story in Pride and Prejudice, for me, is that it epitomizes this saying.
