Drafted into the US Army during World War 2, Ken Loge served in the South Pacific from April 1942 to April 1944, then in the European theater of operations from February 1944 to the end of hostilities. He began his career as a teacher in North Dakota one-room schools, followed by a post as circulation manager of the Watertown Public Opinion in Watertown, South Dakota.
