Joan Sangster is, in the words of one of the reviewers of the manuscript, 'one of Canada's most meticulous, industrious, imaginative, and theoretically grounded historians.' She has published previously in the CSHS: Dreams of Equality: Canadian Women on the Left (1989). In addition, she published Earning Respect: The Lives of Working Women in Small Town Ontario 1920-1960 (UTP 1995), and co-authored Beyond the Vote: Canadian Women and Politics with Linda Kealey (UTP 1989).
