Myriam Angelica Reyes Pena was born on the 7th August, 1943 in Temuco, Chile. In January 1975, due to the military coup, she left for Argentina with her husband, leaving her four children under the care of their grandparents. Three months later she was reunited with her children in Buenos Aires and proceeded to the United Kingdom, where they were granted political asylum in April 1975. She started writing in 1976 when she and her family were living in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, in the northeast of England.
