Edward Ryder was born in New York City. He attended local schools and then Cornell University, where he earned a B.S. degree in plant sciences. He received a Ph. D. in genetics at the University of California-Davis. After serving two years in the U.S Army, he began a long career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Salinas, CA. During that period he produced over 100 publications related to his work with lettuce and other leafy vegetables and released 17 lettuce varieties. He retired in 2003 and took up fiction writing. This is his second novel.
