CAPT. WILLIAM J. RUHE, USN (RET.), received three Silver Stars for his WWII performance and commanded vessels in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He edited the Submarine Review and was a technical adviser to Tom Clancy. He lives in suburban Washington, D.C.
