Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) was the author of more than twenty novels and hundreds of short stories, poems and essays. She was born on Prince Edward Island, where most of her novels-including her first, "Anne of Green Gables" (1908)-were set. Her works have sold tens of millions of copies and remain widely read more than seven decades after her death. She was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1935.
